ABOUT

The EPIC Charitable Trust was set up in July, 2018 and is part of an initiative born with the aim of providing relief to the drought affected farms on the Eyre Peninsula.

The Trust is a response to the tough conditions that many farmers across the Eyre Peninsula are facing. Throughout 2018 Mentally Fit EP had been travelling the peninsula delivering Men’s Wellness events and were aware of the struggle that many of the farming communities were facing at the time (and are continuing to face at present).

EPIC Grain Brokers also travels the region constantly and Steve Whillas was having conversations around the dire conditions. It was very evident that help was needed as soon as possible, and therefore asking the community for donations of feed for stock, space for agistment, and funds to arrange baling and freight began back in July, 2018.

The response and support was been enormous right from the beginning.

After the successful support project delivering in excess of 5,500 bales of Barley Straw to farmers in need on the Eyre Peninsula, our focus has now turned to supporting the health and wellbeing of farmers and their families in our communities.

Conversations and feedback has also focused on the fact that the communities are all in this together; when one industry suffers, the flow on effect is large. It is also important to note that natural disasters tend to affect more than one industry, however some can feel overlooked.

Growing Together is a 2-day event that will be a full weekend of information, connection, support and, importantly, fun for families from across the region. Informative guest speakers will share thoughts, facts and experiences on work health and safety, financial planning, support and succession planning, grain, livestock and fisheries specific information, and wellbeing. There will also be live entertainment. The second day will include family friendly events, games and activities to promote connection and wellbeing.
