As this is the first post on our new website about the Rotary Men's Campaign, it's important to get a bit of background info...
During a Mentally Fit EP committee meeting in 2016 we discussed the fact that we were missing the mark with men, and needed to do more to reduce the stigma around help seeking.
Jo, the CEO of West Coast Youth and Community Support, had the concept spring to mind at 2am!
What we have ended up with is a powerful campaign in the form of a travelling photographic exhibition of 30 men from across Eyre Peninsula. It highlights men’s mental health, educates and informs men about resources and services available, and works at removing the stigma around talking about mental health issues.
The exhibition kicked off in Wudinna in March. Over 10 months from March it will travel to 10 towns. Each opening night consists of drinks, nibbles and guest speakers, and therefore after the 10 months we will have heard from over 20 guest speakers. Hundreds of viewers have already seen this photos, and we have travelled thousands of kilometres for set up, opening nights and pack ups!!
Last night (21st September) was the opening in Tumby Bay. It was another great night of connection, conversation and sharing of resources.
Thank you to everyone who came along, to Steve Whillas and Mick Traeger for sharing their stories of resilience, and to Tumby Takeaway (Aaron and Danica) for the use of their awesome space and yummy food!!
Duck into Tumby Takeaway over the next 2 weeks to check out the exhibition and grab some resources! 📷👍🏽
